Dear Member;
Today, June 28th/2023 at 11:00 AM, the bargaining Committee delivered 48-hour notice of our intention to evoke strike sanctions. I can also share that today at 12:00 noon, IBEW and Manitoba Hydro have come to an agreement (see link) on an EMERGENCY/ESSENTIAL SERVICES AGREEMENT COVERING EMERGECY RESPONSE CREWS (ERC).
IBEW will be sending out a communication regarding picket line information/rules to both the membership as well as picket captains over the next couple days.
In regards to the Communication Jay Grewal sent out this morning in the Hydro gram June 28, 2023 - HEADLINE: Message from the President: IBEW membership votes to reject offer, appears to be another attempt at union busting. These inaccurate corporate-wide communications about our membership and bargaining are viewed by many to coerce and intimidate members into accepting a deal. We will be filling another unfair labour practice and will be seeking damages for the membership as a result of the many concerns raised by staff. As you may recall, the union filed an unfair labour practice against Manitoba Hydro with the MLB for similar communication violations during the last round of bargaining. We are seeing a pattern of anti-union rhetoric at the highest levels of governance in Manitoba Hydro and we must respond accordingly.
Over the next week, we will be sending out an anonymous survey to the entire membership seeking their personal feedback on the unfair labour practice. In that survey, we will have an opportunity to respond to inappropriate corporate-wide communications . You will have an opportunity to share your name and whether you are willing to be a witness if called upon when we proceed to the Labour board.
In the meantime, the Union will continue urging Manitoba Hydro to return to the bargaining table and to negotiate a fair and reasonable agreement and avoid a strike if at all possible.
