Dear Member,
As of our last update yesterday, the bargaining committees have met on multiple occasions and have several exchanges of ideas and proposals. We are pleased to share that the IBEW Bargaining Committee/Executive and Manitoba Hydro have reached a tentative agreement as of 7:00 this evening. We are pleased to announce that this offer is one that we will be able to recommend for ratification.
We believe this deal strikes a balance between a fair wage settlement for IBEW employees of Manitoba Hydro, providing for improved working conditions, increasing staffing to meet the challenges of maintaining and growing Manitoba Hydro’s electrical infrastructure, and providing much needed labour stability for the next three years.
Manitoba Hydro has granted permission for staff to attend update meetings at various locations throughout the province wherever operationally able. We will be hosting these “offer update” meetings through our unit chairs and recorders, as well as some of our picket captains. As a result of the recent offer that the committee will be able to recommend to the membership, we will be postponing the vote scheduled to take place Thursday until the next day.
A brief summary of the MOA will be sent out Thursday afternoon after the first update meeting, to be followed by a 2nd update meeting on Friday. The ratification vote which will go out to the membership at 1:00 PM Friday, January 12th and close on Tuesday Jan 16th @ 12:00 (noon).
IBEW and Manitoba Hydro recognize that negotiations may lead to stressful situations for everyone involved. We hope that the conclusion of negotiations, and the resulting tentative agreement, provides everyone with certainty and relief from any anxiety in the days, weeks, months and years ahead. We will continue our commitment to serving the people of Manitoba.
