IBEW 2034 member helps Ukraine effort - April 6, 2022

Every day we see great examples of selflessness towards others who aren’t as lucky as we are. Yesterday was no exception as we learned of the courage and caring shown by one of our own members, Pedro Bedard (OD III) from Dorsey Station. Pedro has left the relative comfort of Manitoba and taken a 5 to 8 week Leave of Absence from his position at Manitoba Hydro, in order to go over to Ukraine to work as a combat medic. While there, Pedro will join forces with 3 other selfless individuals, one of whom is a medical Doctor. The group is on its way and scheduled to arrive today (Wednesday) in Warsaw Poland around noon.
These brave individuals are financing the costs associated with their efforts on their own. Those costs include transportation, personal insurance, the rental or purchase of a used van, and necessary medical supplies for the duration of their mission, to name but a few.
Not everyone is at that stage in life where they can pick up and leave for distant locations. But IBEW members are used to putting themselves out to help wherever, whenever, and however they can. Witness the amazing efforts by your sisters and brothers during the ice storms and through the height of COVID-19. IBEW 2034 members have a tradition of wanting to help, and today is no different.
I’m glad to report that a Go Fund Me account has been created to raise money to help heroes like Pedro offset some of their costs. I recognize that not everyone is able to contribute in the same way. But if we want to actively help Pedro and the Ukrainian effort, then we have an opportunity to donate.
