Dear Member;
As we approach the upcoming January 4th Strike Mandate Vote, we want to send out an update on a few items regarding negotiations for the 2024-2026 period.
- Manitoba Hydro has yet to provide a financial mandate and has stated it expects to share one before the end of January. The committee feels that is simply too long, as they received notification to bargain on October 12, 2023.
- Bargaining dates concluded on December 20, with a total of 7 sign-off sheets to date. Nothing signed off to date represents anything of significance as monetary improvements for the vast majority of the membership.
- We have upcoming meeting dates with Manitoba Hydro, where Adrien Frost will be acting as a mediator. Those dates are set for January 8th, 9th, and 10th.
- Taking everything into consideration, IBEW will be conducting a STRIKE MANDATE VOTE that will be initiated at noon on January 4, 2024. As previously stated, the mandate will lay out some minimum standards as they relate to overall earnings and value over the contract period.
- As of today, all potential picket line locations and captains have been contacted, and a plan is in place should strike action be required.
Barring a substantial offer or significant change of events before January 4th, the strike mandate vote will be initiated on January 4th, and the results will be tallied on or about January 10th in consideration of the many staff that may be away over the Holiday and New Year period. If required, your “YES” vote will demonstrate strength, solidarity, and our commitment to receive a fair deal in short order. On Jan 10th, if the Bargaining Committee is in possession of a strike mandate, we will be in a position to provide Manitoba Hydro 48-hrs notice if required.
