Message Re: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - Sept, 27, 2024
Dec 11, 2024

September 27, 2024

Dear Sisters, Brothers, and Friends,

Monday, September 30th marks Orange Shirt Day, also known as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day offers us a chance to reflect on the painful legacy of residential schools, honour survivors, and remember the children who never returned. It’s also an opportunity to learn about the ongoing impact of colonization on Indigenous Peoples.

As we reflect, let’s also take a moment to appreciate the love we share with our families, mindful of the children who were denied that opportunity.  Reconciliation is both a personal and collective responsibility, and we can all contribute to meaningful change. One way to show support is by wearing an orange shirt over the next few days to raise awareness about the residential school system and its lasting impact on Indigenous communities.

As we reflect, it’s important to look forward with purpose. While acknowledging past wrongs is essential, we must focus on creating opportunities for Indigenous communities. By investing in education, skills training, and job creation, we can foster economic independence, empower individuals, and revitalize communities. Together, we can build a more equitable workforce that uplifts everyone and promotes mutual growth and understanding.
